GEM had a leading role in the organisation of the UNISDR's Science and Technology Conference on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Besides GEM’s direct involvement in the conference design and engagement of key participants, GEM representatives also chaired and reported on sessions. Four documents showing GEM’s work were accepted and presented in the Poster Exhibition. The conference was another great opportunity to disseminate GEM’s tools and to establish potential areas to collaborate with and organisations.
The conference brought together more than 700 scientists and disaster risk experts and government officials to discuss the development of an implementation roadmap and a new Science and Technology Partnership in support the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. GEM is now proposing to become a member of the Science and Technology Partnership.
In a conference side event, sixty people attended a half-day presentation on the work GEM and partners have been doing on Risk Assessment in Africa.
